Gunnera manicata - Dinosaur Food

Giant Gunnera is one of the largest plants in the world. It can grow 10' tall with an equal spread. The enormous leaves are big enough to stand under.

Gunnera comes from the cloud forests of Costa Rica, where it grows at the misty, cool edges of ponds and streams. It likes damp, shady conditions, will tolerate warmth if watered enough, but doesn't like being cold. Perennial in zones 7-9, it can handle somewhat colder zones if mulched in winter.

You've seen Gunnera featured in landscape design magazines. This is the holy grail of plant fanatics everywhere. It grows easily from seed, and in the right spot will be around to amaze for decades.
