Jacaranda mimosifolia - Jacaranda Tree

Jacaranda Tree in bloom is breathtaking. In spring, its entire canopy is covered with lavender blossoms. It looks like the sky turned purple.

The rest of the year, this beautiful shade tree is a cloud of feathery foliage. Native to Brazil, it grows best in warm zones 9-10, can handle cold down to 25*, but is basically subtropical. It loves the heat, needs well-drained soil and moderate water, will tolerate some drought.

In Southern California and Florida, Jacaranda can grow to 50' and is much used as a street tree, but is happy in a large container and flowers at a young age.

Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Surface sow seeds on top of the soil, gently cover.

Cover your pot with plastic wrap and a rubber band to keep in heat and moisture.

Place your pot in a warm, sunny location.

Keep soil consistently moist but not soaking wet.

Remove plastic wrap once you have seedlings.
