Alpinia katsumadai - Katsumadai Ginger

Pungent and spicy, this spectacular ginger grows 5' tall. Flashy pink and yellow shell flowers grow upright handsome wavy foliage. They resemble Alpinia zerumbet, but the blooms are a foot tall and stand straight up. This collector's ginger is quite rare.

Katsumadai grows wild in the forests of tropical Asia and is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. It does beautifully in a greenhouse and will thrive in your zone 8 to 10 garden. Like most tropicals, it needs rich moist soil and partial shade.

These seeds are very fresh and should be planted right away.
