Dietes bicolor - African Iris

This tall, grassy South African iris flowers almost year-round in warm zones 8-10, producing a profusion of yellow butterfly-like blooms with dark markings. Individual flowers last only a day but are quickly followed by more. Moraea blooms on and off most of the year, and the graceful 4' narrow foliage is attractive enough to make it worth planting.

An evergreen perennial, Evergreen Iris grows easily from seed, and eventually spreads to dense clumps. It's drought tolerant in sun or shade and looks terrific in a pot. Often used in mass plantings. It's also spectacular in a solitary stand or a container. Hardy to 15 degrees F and easy to bring indoors, this gorgeous iris should be everywhere.
